Meghalaya's Forest and Environment Minister James K Sangma has assured that the State Government would act against illegal coke factories operating in the State. Talking to the media the Minister said that the Government will not tolerate any kind of illegal activities and if there are coke plants functioning illegally, they will be closed down.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">There have been demands from several quarters for immediate shutting down of the illegal coke factories in West and East Jaintia Hills districts. It may be mentioned that BJP leader and Cabinet Minister AL Hek had written to the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for his intervention into the alleged operation of over 32 coke factories in Jaintia Hills. According to him, only 5 of 37 have obtained proper licenses for operation while the rest are operating without valid licenses.</span><br />
