<span style="color: #222222;">After more than a month of rescue operations to retrieve five trapped coal miners at Umpleng in East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, the State Government has finally suspended the rescue efforts since July 8, 2021.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">According to the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills, E Kharmalki the operations have been suspended until further notice. Citing reasons for the suspension, the Deputy Commissioner informed that due to incessant rain, the water level has gone up and hampered the diving operations in the mine shaft to retrieve the bodies.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Earlier the combined team of the Indian Navy, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have successfully retrieved three bodies out of the five miners trapped in the coal mine since May 30.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has informed today that the State Government will give compensation to the families of those who lost their lives in the coal mining tragedy as per the rules set by the National Green Tribunal.</span><br />''  <br />
