Meghalaya Government has decided to extend the ongoing curfew imposed in Shillong Agglomeration of East Khasi Hills district for another 24 hours citing law and order situation.<br />'' <br />''Following a meeting with Cabinet Ministers and top officials of the Government at Shillong, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma told reporters that the decision to extend curfew was taken to prevent any untoward incident.<br />'' <br />''The curfew will conclude at 5.00 a.m. on 18th of August and the internet suspension will continue for the next few days.<br />'' <br />''He said that based on the aspects of the series of events that has unfolded including the death of former General Secretary of Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council in the recent bomb blast in Laitumkhra market, the State Government has decided to conduct a judicial inquiry.<br />'' <br />''The Chief Minister said, once the report of the judicial inquiry is submitted to the government, appropriate action will be taken in this regard.<br />'' <br />''A Peace Committee will be set up where the Deputy Chief Minister will head where other Cabinet Ministers will be members including heads of religious leaders, community leaders and Civil Society Organisations.<br />'' <br />''He further informed that the meeting also decided to constitute a Sub-Committee for security, law and order which will be headed by the Chief Minister for overall strengthening of security measures in the state.<br />'' <br />''Talking about the letter sent by the Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui to relieve him from the Department of Home, the Chief Minister said that a decision has not been taken so far and the matter will be examined.<br />'' <br />''He stated that firm actions will be taken against those involved in the incident where a Police vehicle was torched and weapons were snatched from the Police yesterday.<br />'' <br />''He said, such acts are unacceptable and said that the weapons should be returned.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The Chief Minister further urged the people to maintain peace.</span><br />
