Meghalaya govt decides to reduce VAT on Petrol, Diesel

<span style="color: #222222;">In Meghalaya, the State cabinet has decided to provide relief on the fuel prices in the State. The cabinet has agreed to reduce the VAT on petrol from 20% to 13.5%. As for diesel from 12%, it has now been reduced to 5% per litre. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told media persons after the Cabinet meeting that the new rates will be in place from tonight. He further claimed that Meghalaya charges the lowest tax on petrol and diesel.<br />''<br />''Meanwhile, the State Cabinet also decided to upgrade Mairang Civil Sub- Division to a full-fledged district after the proposal put up by the Political Department was approved. The new district will be inaugurated on November 10, 2021, and the name of the newly created district will be known as Eastern West Khasi Hills. With the creation of this new district, the State will now have a total of 12 districts.</span>
