Meghalaya: GNLA Camp busted in an operation following killing of a woman by militants

In Meghalaya, the gruesome murder of a woman by militants for resisting rape; operations against the rebels have been intensified. A joint team of commandos of Meghalaya’s Special Weapons and Tactics unit and the Combat Battalion for Resolute Action busting the camps of Garo National Liberation Army at Adugre village near Durama hills range in East Garo hills district today.

East Garo Hills SP Davis N.R. Marak said that the Security forces have busted the GNLA Camp. He said the gun battle still continues. Police sources said that though the camp was busted, the militants managed to give the security forces the slip.

Intense gun battle erupted in East Garo Hills district since this morning, as security forces launched a crackdown on a militant hideouts. However, as the encounter continued till filing of this report, the number of casualty, if any so far could not be ascertained.

Meanwhile, taking a tough stand against the worsening law and order situation in the Garo Hills, the Central government rushed 1,000 para-military force personnel to Meghalaya and also sought a report from the State Government. Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju spoke to chief minister Mukul Sangma and urged him to take strong action against the militants.
