The Meghalaya chief minister Dr D D Lapang today informed the state assembly that the union home ministry has agreed to further extend the truce with the outlawed militant groups in Garo hills region. <br/><br/>He was replying to a motion brought against the government during the ongoing budget session. He said A’chik National Volunteers Council (ANVC) is currently under the ceasefire with the union government but is threatening to go back to jungle if the ceasefire was not extended. <br/><br/>Dr Lapang informed the house that after the interlocutor from the centre Mr P C Haldar held talks with the separatist outfit in Shillong on the16th of this month, the union home ministry has agreed to extend the ceasefire. The truce pact was to be over on the 31st of this month.
