Meghalaya: EC introduces novel ways to create awareness about voting rights

In Meghalaya, the Election Commission has introduced novel ways to create awareness about voting rights among the voters ahead of the April 9 Lok Sabha elections.

Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya P Naik said in Shillong that top musicians and some sports persons have been roped in to create awareness among the people.

A popular choir group, the Shillong Chamber Choir and noted singer Headingson Ryntathiang, along with former world champion karate kid Linza F Syiem, boxer Torak Kharpran and local designer Tatania Momin, are among those who have appealed to the people to exercise their franchise.

He said in Meghalaya, only 64 per cent of the electorate voted in the Lok Sabha elections 2009, hoping that this time music will do the magic and percentage will be higher.
