Meghalaya CM Lapang agrees to tender resignation

In Meghalaya, the state chief minister Dr D D Lapang has agreed to tender his resignation after his return to Shillong. Talking to AIR, Dr Lapang said a decision to this effect has been taken at the All India Congress Committee, AICC, level to have a change in leadership of the state. <br/> <br/>Dr Lapang who is in New Delhi met the top AICC leaders including the AICC President Smt. Sonia Gandhi on Sunday. During his meeting with AICC ,Dr Lapang agreed to quit as leader of the party. The move paves way for his deputy Dr Mukul Sangma to be sworn in as the 20th chief minister possibly on Tuesday.<br/> <br/>Meghalaya Congress legislative party is also likely to meet today in Shillong to elect its next leader following Dr Lapang decision to submit his resignation as chief minister.<br/> <br/>The senior congress leader Dr Mukul Sangma who represents the party from the west Garo hills Ampatigiri constituency was called by the AICC for further discussion on the formation of next government in Meghalaya.<br/> <br/>The eleven month old congress led government came under crisis when 21 of the total 28 congress MLAs decided to extend their support to Dr Mukul Sangma.<br/>
