<span style="color: #222222;">In Meghalaya, the ruling MDA coalition headed by the National People's Party (NPP) won two seats and its partner United Democratic Party (UDP) won one seat thereby consolidating its position. The bye-election was held on October 30 in three assembly constituencies in two districts.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">NPP won the Mawryngkneng and Rajabala assembly constituencies which were earlier held by Congress while UDP captured Mawphlang seat. NPP candidate from Mawryngkneng assembly constituency, Pyniaid Sing Syiem won by a margin of 1816 votes defeating his nearest rival Highlander Kharmalki of the Indian National Congress.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Meanwhile, UDP candidate from Mawphlang constituency Eugeneson Lyngdoh emerged victorious after defeating his nearest rival Kennedy Cornelius Khyriem by 4401 votes. While NPP's Abdus Saleh won the Rajabala seat with a margin of 1927 votes defeating his nearest Congress rival candidate, Hashina Yasmin Mondal.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">It is to be mentioned that the faction-ridden Congress has apparently failed to open its account effectively losing two assembly constituencies which it had won in the 2018 Assembly polls. Now Congress has wrapped up itself in 17 constituencies. While NPP opens its book in 23 constituencies.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the outcome of the bye-elections was a clear indication that the people had rejected the Congress. Meanwhile, the Congress party which failed to open its account blamed the use of money power for their poll debacle. Senior congress leader Ampareen Lyngdoh said the party will not lie down and it will come back strongly in the 2023 assembly polls.</span><br />
