Meghalaya Budget Session to start on Friday

In Meghalaya, the Budget Session of the state Legislative Assembly began today in Shillong with the address of Governor Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary. In his address the Governor said the activities of various militant groups in the state were being monitored and kept under a close watch. The governor said that the state government has been closely and continuously monitoring situation along the inter-state border with Assam following the recent ethnic conflicts. Observing that law and order situation in the state has been generally stable and peaceful to a ‘large extent’, the governor, however, rued the ‘exception’ of the ‘unfortunate ethnic clashes’ in East Garo Hills ‘resulting in regrettable loss of life, damage, loss of property and dislocation of a large number of people’. He also sought the whole-hearted cooperation of all Legislators in the 60-member House and the civil society at large, for bringing about faster, balanced and inclusive growth in the state.
