Meghalaya, Assam agree to maintain status quo to resolve their border disputes

<br/>Assam and Meghalaya Governments have decided to amicably resolve their border disputes with both sides agreeing to maintain status quo. The two states also decided to work out modalities to settle the issues mutually.<br/><br/>This was decided at the first meeting of the special committee on border disputes at Shillong on Thursday. The committee was constituted by both the states last year. Assam side was represented by the State Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma.<br/><br/>The Chairman of the Committee and Meghalaya Revenue Minister Mr. Prestone Tynsong said discussions were successful with both sides agreeing to resolve the differences along the boundary in as many as 12 places.<br/><br/>He said the Meghalaya Government would prepare a document consisting the names of villages and the community inhabiting in those areas of differences. It will be submitted to the Assam Government within 15 days for verification. The Minister informed that the Special Committee will meet in Guwahati within 45 days.
