Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma today unfurled the national flag amidst heavy down pours at Polo Ground in Shillong to celebrate the Independence Day. Addressing the Independence Day function, Dr. Sangma recalled with deep gratitude the great sons and daughters of India like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and many others who provided the leadership that led to the birth of the world’s largest democracy. The Chief Minister also remembered the contributions by the patriots of the State like U Tirot Sing, U Kiang Nangbah, Pa Togan Sangma for their selflessness and steadfast devotion to the cause of freedom.Dr.Sangma said that efforts under the Mission Organic are aimed at giving a boost to production and marketing of organic products from Meghalaya. He said, the State Government has formulated a Climate Change Action Plan.The Asian Development Bank has approved a project, namely, “Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya” which is the first of its kind in the country. In this regard, the 100 million dollar loan had been signed between Government of India, the Asian Development Bank and the State Government on 23rd January, 2014, Dr. Sangma added.
