Meghalaya along with the rest of the country today celebrated the 65th Republic Day with grand manner by taking part in the various ceremonial parades held in the State Capital Shillong, District Headquarters and Sub-Divisional Offices. Braving the chilly weather, large number of people took part at the ceremonial parade held at Polo Ground in Shillong, where the State Governor Dr. K K Paul has unfurled the National tri-colour flag and took salute of jawans from Meghalaya police, other paramilitary forces and scouts.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Dr K K Paul said that we have been endeavoring to project Meghalaya as a liberal and progressive state and as attractive destination for investments in tourism, education, health and industries imposition of ILP may send a regressive message. As such more pragmatic and effective mechanism need to be evolved to deal with issue of influx. He said that the wlcome step taken by the state Government to invite the agitating NGOs for talks and in turn, the positive response shown by the NGOs need to be commended. Dr Paul appealed to all sections of society to work in unison to make Meghalaya a land of peace and prosperity that all of us can be proud of.
