The Olympic torch is in the host city, Rio de Janeiro, and the quadrennial event, a mega sporting spectacle will start in less than 24 hours from now. With that being said, it is time to reflect upon India's performance in the London Olympics.AIR correspondent reports that, in the 2012 Olympics India won 6 medals, considered as the best performance so far by them in terms of medals won: AIR correspondent reports that gradual improvement in the medals tally from 1996 Atlanta Olympics never saw such a rich haul as it was in London Olympics. India bagged 2 silver and 4 bronze its best in terms of medals till time. It started with Gagan Narang bagging a bronze medal in the men's 10 metre air rifle event. This was India's third shooting medal in Indian Olympic history and it was the first medal for India at the London Olympics. Vijay Kumar won a silver medal next, in the men's 25 m rapid fire pistol event, making it the second individual silver medal for India in any Olympics at that point of time. After that favourites or star athletes went on to perform well. Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal won bronze medal in singles and became the first Indian to win a medal in Badminton at the Olympics. Mary Kom settled for a Bronze in the women's flyweight category and became first Indian female boxer with a Olympic medal. Then came wrestling, which produced some momentous occasion headlined by leg flipping finishing moves by Indian grapplers. First Yogeshwar Dutt got bronze in the freestyle 60 kg category by that move and after that Olympian Sushil Kumar got a Silver medal in 66 kg freestyle wrestling event with the same leg flipping move. With that he also became the first Indian to win a medal in back-to-back Olympics.
