The meeting of Congress Working Committee (CWC), the top decision making body of the party, is underway in New Delhi. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is chairing the meeting as party Chief Sonia Gandhi is indisposed. Addressing the CWC, Mr Gandhi said, the government is lobbying with States through informal channels to deny work under MGNREGA to the very poor.

He said, in recent months, jawans have suffered the highest casualties in decades. But, the government has cut down disability pension as well as misleading soldiers on One Rank One Pension.

AIR correspondent reports that the elevation of Rahul Gandhi to the Party Chief is expected to be delayed at today's meeting as the Congress top brass is likely to further defer the process of organisational polls, which had been postponed earlier by a year till this December-end. It is believed that a section within the party feeling that this should be done after the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
