A meeting was held between representatives of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) and the West Bengal Chief Minister, Ms. Mamta Banerjee at the Writers Building in Kolkata on Monday. The meeting was also attended by the State Chief Secretary, Mr. Samar Ghosh. The Gorkha Janmukti Motcha was represented by its President, Mr. Bimal Gurung, the party's General Secretary, Mr. Roshan Giri and the four newly elected MLAs of the Party. Later talking to newspersons, Ms. Banerjee said that the two sides will again sit for a meeting on the 6th of next month. She said that the talks were very fruitful and cordial. Ms. Banerjee also said that after the meeting on the 6th of June, there will be meeting at the Secretarial level to decide on when tripartite talks can be held after consultation with the Centre. The Gorkha Janmukti members expressed satisfaction at the meeting and did not press for a separate statehood for the Darjeeling hills but they wanted some sort of self governance to be given to them.
