The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2012 has received Parliament's approval with the Rajya Sabha adopting it yesterday. The Lok Sabha had passed it earlier. It seeks to amend the Constitution to include the Medara community in the list of Scheduled Tribes in Karnataka. Replying to the discussion in the Upper House, Tribal Affairs Minister V. Kishore Chandra Deo said the Medara community was omitted in the list in 2002. Referring to members demand for inclusion of several communities in the Scheduled Tribes list, Mr. Deo said the state government concerned should recommend such cases as per the procedure.
