Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has expressed confidence that the food inflation will come down as the government has taken a number of measures in this regard. In an exclusive interview to AIR and Doordarshan, Mukherjee admitted that food inflation continues to be a cause of concern despite various steps being taken to shield the vulnerable sections from its impact. Supply-side constraints are being checked by improvements in the public distribution system and zero duties on various pulses and commodities in short supply. He hoped that with these steps, inflationary pressure will be further reduced and food inflation will moderate further from its December high.
The Finance Minister also expressed confidence that the government will easily achieve its disinvestment target of Rs 40,000 crore and said he is not worried about the market fluctuations, which are largely caused by global flows.

The Finance Minister said that GDP growth of 8.5 per cent will have a greater trickle down effect, if labour intensive sectors participate significantly in the growth process.

Mukherjee also disclosed that an investigation is on in the IPL issue from Income Tax and money laundering point of view. He said Income Tax Department and Enforcement Directorate are looking into the matter to find out whether there has been any money laundering in IPL.
