The government today said a series of measures are being taken to protect the interests of tobacco farmers. Replying questions, Commerce and Industry minister Anand Sharma said a fund has been instituted to help tobacco farmers. He said to increase the export potential of tobacco products, the Tobacco board has undertaken various export promotion activities. Mr. Sharma said efforts are being made to reorient the production of tobacco to meet the changing international demands and to enhance the quality and productivity of tobacco growth in India.
