In Tamil Nadu, MDMK General Secretary Mr. Vaiko , his party MP, Mr. Ganeshamurthy and over 150 party workers were arrested for defying police orders in Tirupur district this morning. Police sources said that Mr Vaiko and his supporters were detained when they attempted to proceed to the site where the Kerala government has proposed to construct a check dam across the pambar, a tributary of the Amaravathy.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that the Kerala government’s proposal to construct a check-dam across the Pambar, a tributary of the Amaravathy has kicked up a controversy as it irrigates over 60,000 acres of agricultural land in Coimbatore, Erode and Karur districts and meets the drinking water requirements of the region.<br/><br/>
