The Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has become the number one coal producer in the country by producing a record 137.90 million tonne (MT) of coal in 2015-16, contributing 39 per cent to the growth of the Coal India Limited. Briefing to press last evening in Bhubaneswar, MCL chairman AK Jha said the company dispatched 140.22 MT of coal to the consumers compared to 123 MT indicating a growth of 14 per cent. He said the company is targeting 167 MT coal production for next year while for the year 2020, the target is 250 MT.
