The Supreme Court has refused to intervene in the ongoing MCD employees' strike in Delhi that enters 10th day today. Hearing on a plea, a bench headed by Chief Justice T S Thakur said yesterday, the apex court cannot take over the functions of the Delhi High Court. The petitioner had sought the intervention of the apex court on the ground that no effective hearing had taken place in the High Court which had simply adjourned the matter for further hearing for 10th February.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, a delegation of agitating sanitation workers in Delhi yesterday met Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. While the workers refused to call off their strike, they claimed that the LG assured them of looking into their demands.<br/><br/>The Mayors of three Delhi Municipal Corporations met Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia over the issue. Talking to reporters after the meeting, North Delhi Mayor Ravinder Gupta informed that Mr. Sisodia assured them to talk to the LG and the Chief Minister for the release of additional Rs 307 crore to both the corporations. Delhi government had earlier offered a loan of over Rs 550 crore to three MCDs to pay the pending salaries of protesting workers.
