MCD & NDMC to undertake steps to prevent spread of Dengue: Azad

The government today said, MCD and NDMC will undertake a cleanliness drive in lanes and bylanes of Delhi beginning Monday to prevent the spread of dengue. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said a coordinated effort between different civic agencies of central and state governments have been chalked out to tackle the dengue outbreak.Informing that MCD, NDMC and CPWD will jointly visit private and public buildings to ensure all water storage tanks are covered with lids. Mr Azad informed that he held a meeting with Delhi health minister Kiran Walia to review the situation arising out of rise in dengue cases. He appealed to the people of Delhi not to get panicked and take preventive steps. Our correspondent reports, schools have asked their students to wear full sleeves and pants, instead of the customary shorts and skirts. The Delhi government has also swung into action to contain the rise in dengue cases by issuing a host of advisories and announcing several services. With the Commonwealth Games round the corner, officials of the health department are working overtime to control the dengue menace before October.
