The Municipal Corporation of Delhi, MCD has proposed an increase in property tax and introduction of congestion charges at crowded places. Presenting the budget for 2012-13 in the House, MCD Commissioner K S Mehra proposed increase in parking charges, street parking and introduction of congestion charges in commercial areas of Karol Bagh, Paharganj and City Zones of MCD to notify road stretches for imposing charges. He said that the civic body expects an additional revenue of 520 crore rupees through new taxation proposals. Mehra said revenue has increased to 5,601 crore in the current year from last year's 4,426 crore rupees. He said that in the next fiscal, the revenue is expected to increase to 6,829 crore rupees. The budget also announced that 45 crore rupees has been earmarked for providing computers to students of Class IV of MCD schools. Cashless medical treatment scheme for MCD employees will also start from the next fiscal.
