BSP supremo Mayawati has said her party is opposed to FDI in multi-brand Retail but will decide on voting in parliament on the issue only on the floor of the house. Keeping her cards close to her chest Ms. Mayawati said her party will have to consider whether to vote with the communal forces.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi Ms. Mayawati said FDI is indeed required for development, but should be allowed only in selected sectors.
Government should not take a hurried decision, Mayawati said adding, let the policy be first tested in Congress-ruled states. She said the Government has also to consider the adverse impacts of FDI on small traders, retailers and farmers.
