In Uttar Pradesh voting will not be required for biennial elections for Rajya Sabha as only 10 nominations have been filed for 10 seats of Upper House of Parliament which are falling vacant on April 2. It has paved the way for unopposed election of all candidates, including BSP supremo Mayawati and Samajwadi Party's film actor turn politician Jaya Bachchan. Notification for elections was issued on 12th of this month. Scrutiny of papers will be taking place today. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that with strength of its 224 MLAs and support of two independents in the house of 403, ruling Samajwadi Party has fielded maximum six candidates including Jaya Bachchan, Kironmoy Nanda, Darshan Singh Yadav, Naresh Agarwal, Brij Bhushan Tiwari and Munawwar Saleem. From Bahujan Samaj Party, only two candidates including party supremo Mayawati and outgoing Rajya Sabha MP Munkaad Ali have filed nominations. The party has strength of 80 MLAs. From BJP, which won 47 seats in the assembly elections, Vinay Katiyar has filed nomination, whereas Rashid Masood has filed papers as joint candidate of Congress and RLD having a combined strength of 37 MLAs
