In Uttar Pradesh, the main accused in the beheading of the statue of former state Chief Minister Mayawati case has been arrested from Noida. Quoting police sources, AIR Allahabad correspondent reports that name of National president of a little-known outfit—Uttar Pradesh Nava Nirman Sena—Amit Jaani had surfaced after the incident. He was evading his arrest but has now been detained along with his one supporter while group's state unit President Qasim Chaudhary was arrested from Gomti Nagar area in Lucknow. With this, the total number of arrests in connection with the incident went up to six. Three persons, including organisers of a Sena press conference on the issue have already been in judicial custody. A marble statue of Mayawati was vandalised at Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal at Lucknow, triggering tension and protests by BSP activists across the state.The National Commission for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes has sought a report from the state government on the damage to the statue.
