In Jammu and Kashmir, pilgrimage to holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi ji has gone up by 47,000 during first three months of this year as compared to 2010. A heavy rush of pilgrims is being witnessed since Monday. About 75 thousand pilgrims have arrived at Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine. During first three months of this year, 15.46 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance to Goddess Vaishno Devi as compared to 14.99 lakh, who had performed darshan during the corresponding period of last year. Pilgrims from all over the country are arriving in thousands at Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine for their onward pilgrimage to the Bhawan. The first two days of the Navratras have seen about 75 thousand pilgrims registering themselves for the Yatra. Since authorities are expecting heavy rush to the shrine during the remaining Navratras, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) and police authorities have made elaborate security arrangements for the pilgrims during Navratras . Meanwhile, Jammu famous as ‘City of Temples’ has turned into a holy place with decorated temples and shrines witnessing long queues of devotees waiting for their turn to pay obeisance. Thousands of devotees are visiting ‘Kali Temple’ commonly known as ‘Bawe-wali-Mata’ located at the banks of River Tawi to offer prayers and seek the blessings of the Goddess. There is belief that ‘Maa Kali’ protects people of Jammu from all kinds of evils and enemies.
