In Uttar Pradesh, a massive vaccination drive is being launched today to prevent children from dreaded Japanese Encephalitis, JE, in seven eastern districts. Around 68 lakh children under the age of 15 years will be immunized during the drive. AIR Gorakhpur correspondent quoting official sources reports that the study of encephalitis virus will also be conducted during the drive. AIR correspondent added that more than 13,000 people, mostly children have succumbed to the disease during past 3 decades in terai region of eastern Uttar Pradesh. This year the toll has mounted to over 500.
