In Bihar, a massive hunt has been launched to nab the Naxals responsible for the killing 16 people in Khagaria district yesterday. 10 persons have already been detained in this connection. Giving details, Additional Director General of Police Nilmani said those killed include 5 children. The attack took place at Amosi Bhare Diara area under Morkahi police station. Over 100 Maoists equipped with sophisticated weapons fired indiscriminately on the villagers. 16 people were killed instantly following the firing. A dispute on cultivation of land is said to be reason behind the attack.Strongly condemning the incident, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has rushed a team led by his deputy S K Modi to the site of the carnage. He said prima facie, it appeared to be the handiwork of Maoists, but the state government will take a final view and order an inquiry after getting the report from the team. He announced an ex-gratia of 1.5 lakh rupees to families of those killed in the attack.Union Home Ministry has said that the killing of unarmed and innocent civilians including children seems to have become the hallmark of the Maoists now.
