In Gujarat, the Mass transport services like BRTS of Ahmedabad will have to be implemented in other cities of the state. Addressing a Seminar on Urban Transportation- Emerging trends in Gandhinagar today, chairman of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and Secretary of Urban Development Ministry-New Delhi Sudhir Krishna said , with people from rural areas rushing towards the urban zones, proper planning was required to protect the environment. Gujarat Minister of Urban Development Mr.Nitin Patel said that BRTS work in Surat and Rakot would be completed by Sepetember 2012. He said that the State has initiated the Metro Rail Project for Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar on its own, and is hopeful to get central assistance later .
