Even as the Supreme Court is to consider the Mullaperiyar dam safety issue tomorrow, in Kerala mass agitation demanding immediate action to reduce water level of the dam to 120 feet on a war footing is growing. More MLAs have joined the ongoing Satyagraha and hunger strike in Idukki where the 116 year old dam is situated.AIR Correspondent reports that despite prohibitory orders and stepped up police presence in Kumily and nearby areas, at the Kerala – Tamil Nadu border incidents of attack on houses and destruction of property are taking place. Tamil Nadu CM has expressed sadness in such unfortunate incidents.An all party delegation from Kerala will be reaching Delhi within two days seeking urgent central intervention to sort out dam safety issue. Environmental activist Medha Patkar is reaching Mullaperiyar dam site today. The water level of the dam has slightly come down from the permissible level of 136 feet.
