Mary Kom qualifies for London Olympics

Five time World Champion M C Mary Kom has qualified for the London Olympics in the 51 Kg category. The 29 year old Manipuri is the only Indian woman boxer to qualify for the Games. The honour came to her despite losing in the quarter finals to World Number 2, Nicola Adams of England in the ongoing World Championships being held in Qinhuangdao, China. It came to Mary Kom because Adams defeated the World Champion, Russia's Elena Savelyeva in the semifinals today.Women's boxing will make Olympic debut in London in three categories, 51 kg, 60 kg and 75 kg categories. The ongoing Championships are the only qualifying round for the London Games. In Mary Kom's category, one slot has already been taken by China's Asian Games Gold Mealist Ren Cancan. In the 60 Kg category, India's Sarita Devi failed to qualify after being defeated by Natasha Jonas in the semifinals. In the 75 kg category, India's Pooja Rani had bowed out in the first round.
