MC Mary Kom created history after she outclassed Ukraine's Hanna Okhota by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the women's 48-kilogram light flyweight final of the Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi on Saturday. 

Mary Kom becomes first female boxer to win six gold medals at world championships. 

The 35-year-old Mary Kom from Manipur previously won the gold medal in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 editions of the Championships. 

Apart from this, Mary Kom had also won the silver medal on her debut in 2001. It was Mary's second meeting with the Ukrainian in three months.

Speaking to reporters after her victory, Mary Kom said, she would like to dedicate this win to the country. Mary Kom thanked the fans who turned up to cheer her and the Indian contingent. She said they have been supporting her for the last many years.

Mary Kom defeated Hanna in the semi-final of Silesian Boxing Championships in Poland in September.

In the women's 57-kilogram featherweight final, Sonia Chahal settles for silver. Chahal lost to Ornella Gabriele Wahner of Germany. Sonia entered the final after beating Jo Son Hwa of North Korea by unanimous 5-0 decision yesterday. 

India finished with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

President, Prime Minister and Union Sports Minister have congratulated Mary Kom. 

In a tweet, Mr. Ram Nath  Kovind said, he hoped that this moment will inspire country's girl and children to aspire to attempt and to achieve.  Mr. Narendra Modi in a tweet said, the diligence with which she has pursued sports and excelled at the world stage is extremely inspiring. 

He said, her win is truly special and it is a proud moment for Indian sports. Sports Minister Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore in a tweet said, Mary Kom has become the first ever female boxer to win six World Championships. He said, it is a proud day for all of us.
