Marxist Patriarch Jyoti Basu still critical

The condition of the ailing Marxist leader and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mr Jyoti Basu still remained critical today. However, according to medical bulletin issued this evening, ventilation support requirement and BP stabilising medicines have been reduced. A group of Doctors is constantly monitoring his health. <br/><br/>The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh visited the nursing home in Kolkata to see the ailing leader. Dr Singh, accompanied by Union Finance Minister Mr Pranab Mukherjee and the state Chief Minister Mr Buddhadev Bhattacharya spent some time at the nursing home and inquired about his health. Former Speaker Somnath Chatterji said that the Prime Minister assured the hospital authorities that if any other doctor is required for consultation from any part of India for Basu's treatment, arrangements will be made.<br/><br/>President Pratibha Patil also inquired about the health of ailing marxist patriarch Jyoti Basu and wished him a speedy recovery. Mrs Patil made a telephone call to Chandan, son of the ailing leader from Amravati in Maharashtra. Doctors on the medical board, monitoring the condition of the former chief minister, would meet again in the evening after which a medical bulletin will be issued.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, prayer meetings are being held in different parts of the state wishing him speedy recovery. A large number of people also thronged the nursing home to get the latest information on the health situation of Mr Basu.<br/>
