Markfed is working with progressive potato growers for GlobalGAP certification with a view to organize export of potato to the European Union, which is the largest market for the produce.This was stated by the Joint Secretary, National Horticulture Mission, Govt. of India, Sanjeev Chopra at a seminar on ‘Integrated Crop Management’ organized by Markfed in Jalandhar, today. 214 progressive potato growers who have successfully qualified for GlobalGAP certification for potato crop 2009-10 were distributed certificates on this occasion.He said that Punjab is moving towards Horticulture. To increase the shelf life of fruits and vegetables, a chain of cold storages, both static and mobiles, would be developed in Punjab and in other states also.He also called upon the farmers to use certified seeds for better produce.
