The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex today rose by over 116 points in opening trade on buying by funds and retail investors in heavy weight stocks. The Sensex moved up to 17,347.49 points in opening trade. The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also rose by 32.55 points to 5,177.15 points. Brokers said reports of firming trend on the other Asian markets, which were up by almost 1.6 per cent in morning trade today, mainly triggered buying by foreign funds.
