The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange opened 40 points at 16,846, on emergence of profit-booking this morning. Remaining weak, the sensex stood 9 points in the red, at 16877 a short while ago. Stock markets in Hong Kong, South Korea, and Taiwan were down by between 0.5 percent as caution prevailed ahead of the US central bank's meeting on interest rates.
