Markets climb to new record high; sensex breaches 31000 mark

The domestic stock markets soared to record highs once again, today, with the Sensex crossing the 31,000 mark for the first time ever, and the Nifty breaching the 9,600 mark for the first time.The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange spurted 278 points, or 0.9 percent, to close at a fresh record high of 31,028. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange surged 85 points, to also settle at a new closing peak of 9,595. During the session, the Nifty crossed the 9,600-mark for the first time.At the forex market, the rupee rose for the third straight session, appreciating 18 paise, to 64.44 against the dollar.Gold gained 100 rupees, to 29,250 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. And Brent crude oil futures climbed 28 cents, to 51.74 dollars a barrel
