Market share of BSNL has come down

The government today said the overall market share of BSNL has come down from 31.29 per cent in 2006-07 to 15.75 per cent till February last this year. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, communications and information and technology minister, A Raja said an independent study was carried out through market research to know the reason. He said an expert committee appointed under the chairmanship of Sam Pitroda has come up with a report for improving overall performance of the company. The minister said BSNL has embarked upon a transformation exercise to remain competitive in the market and several initiatives have been taken in this regard.In another reply, he said that Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) will audit the accounts of private telecom companies. In a written reply in the House, communications and information and technology minister, A Raja said CAG will audit the books of accounts of all telecom service providers on a regular basis.
