Market closes on a flat note

The Indian markets closed on a flat note after seeing consolidation throughout the session. The benchmark index at the Bombay Stock Exchange closed at 16,894.25 with a loss of about 18.52 points. Amidst high volatility through out the day, the Sensex touched a high of 16,981 and a low of 16,825. In today's trade, shares of technology, FMCG, metal, pharma, select auto and banking witnessed buying interest. The top gainers today included Jaiprakash Associates, Hindalco and HUL while the list of top losers included DLF, Larsen and Toubro and Reliance. The 30-share Nifty ended flat at 5041.75 with a loss of just 0.30 points. The Nifty remained range bound through the day, touching a high of just 5064 and a low of 5013. The Midcap and Smallcap indices, however, closed in the green. The Midcap index closed at 6513.30 with a gain of 70.11 points. The Smallcap index closed at 7915.76 with a gain of 69.38 points.
