Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju has said the Government will leave no stone unturned to safeguard the vast maritime zone of the country. Speaking after commissioning Indian Coast Guard ship 'Vijit” at Goa Shipyard at Vasco in south Goa, Raju said there had been a phenomenal growth in the maritime security, especially after 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. He said two pollution control vessels, 33 fast patrol vessels, 12 air cushion vehicles and 61 interceptor boats are at various stages of construction at different shipyards in the country.With the commissioning of these vessels, the Indian Coast Guard is bound to be one of the strong and potent force of the world. The 90-metre offshore Patrol Vessel 'Vijit' has been designed and built indigenously by Goa Shipyard and is fitted with most advanced navigation and communication equipment, sensors and machineries by means of state of the art technology.The ship is designed to carry one twin engine light Helicoptre and five high sped boats for serch and Rescue, Law enforcement and maritime patrol. Manned by 8 officers and 82 men the ship will be based at Porbander in Gujarat.
