Marine capture at major fish landings of Indian Coast dips by 4%

Marine capture at major fish landings of the Indian Coast has decreased by four per cent last year, according to the statistics released by the Central marine Fisheries Research Institute, CMFRI at Kochi today. A total of 3.78 million tones of marine products were captured from Indian coast barring Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep during 2013. The CMFRI studies also indicate that there is no immediate threat for marine products due to the climatic changes in the area. But indiscriminate capture of smaller and juvenile fish in the coastal line is a threat for sustainable finishing in future.
