Former champion Maria Sharapova defeated unseeded American Lauren Davis 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-0 at the Australian Open today and set up a fourth round match with rising Swiss talent Belinda Bencic. 12th seed Bencic was the first player into the round of 16 after fighting back from a set down to overhaul Ukrainian Kateryna Bondarenko 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the earlier match. Bencic also became the first Swiss woman to reach the fourth round at Melbourne Park since Martina Hingis and Patty Schnyder in 2007.Japan's Kei Nishikori played down a problem with his right wrist after outlasting Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 7-5, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to move into the last 16 of the Australian Open today. The seventh seed defeated his Spanish opponent in two hour, 12 minutes. Nishikori will next meet Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarter-finals. Ninth seed Tsonga followed Nishikori onto Margaret Court Arena and needed two tiebreaks to get past qualifier Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-4, 7-6(7), 7-6(4) in an all-French third round clash.
