Regaining strength overnight, Hurricane Maria lashed the Dominican Republic early today after a destructive rampage through the US territory of Puerto Rico and Caribbean island nation of Dominica. <br/><br/>According to the US National Hurricane Center, the storm is now a Category 3 hurricane, packing winds of 115 miles per hour. <br/><br/>The Centre said it's bringing high winds and heavy rain now to the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. It will then march on to the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the south-eastern Bahamas tonight or tomorrow.Hurricane Maria showed no mercy when it struck Dominica, killing at least 14 people. <br/><br/>Describing Hurricane Maria as the most devastating storm in a century, Puerto Rico governor Ricardo Rossell said that apart from triggering heavy flooding, <br/><br/>Maria had hit the island's electricity grid so badly that it could take months to restore power. <br/><br/>It is the second devastating storm to hit the Caribbean this hurricane season, the first being category 5 Irma earlier this month. In Dominica, at least seven people have been confirmed dead so far but the death toll is expected to rise as rescue workers make their way to inaccessible parts of the island. <br/><br/>An aerial view of Dominica shows barely an inch of the island has escaped unscathed.
