March in Kokrajhar for safe release of WWF volunteers

In Assam, several voluntary organizations organized a candle-light procession in the main thoroughfares of the Kokrajhar town on Sunday night demanding safe release of the abducted WWF Indian workers. Six members of a WWF survey team, including three women were kidnapped by suspected armed militants from Ultapani forest area in Kokrajhar district on 6th of this month. The abductors had released the three women members at Bengtol near Indo-Bhutan border last week. Three male volunteers of the WWF study team still remained untraced. The State Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi, quoting intelligence sources, revealed that the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) anti-talk group was behind the kidnapping of the WWF volunteers. The Chief Minister has instructed the security forces to intensify operations in the NDFB hideouts to ensure safe release of the WWF volunteers from the captivity of the militants. Meanwhile, the ‘The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) and the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) have appealed to the abductors to release three members of the World Wildlife Fund on humanitarian ground
