Marathon flame arrives in Mumbai

The prestigious Marathon flame arrived in Mumbai from Greece early this morning for the Mumbai Marathon to be held on 17th of this month. This is the first time the flame has been brought to Mumbai, making it the first city outside Europe to get the flame. The flame was brought by Maria Polyzou, the ex-Marathon champion, who still holds the Greek national record. He was received by Deputy Mayor of Mumbai Shraddha Jadhav and Bollywood star John Abraham. The flame, borne in a four-foot long and four-pound lantern was lit by Jadhav today morning at the Mumbai international airport to initiate a relay run. The flame was then brought to Hutatma Chowk in South Mumbai, where another specially erected 15-foot high torch was lit. This torch will stay on till the end of the Mumbai Marathon. Famous personalities like Rahul Bose, Dhanraj Pillai, Tara Sharma, Gul Panag and Milind Soman were among the celebrities who carried the torch.
