Maratha reservation protests: Maharashtra CM appeals to citizens to maintain peace and not fall prey to attempts to disturb peace

Amidst the incidences of violence during Maratha reservation protests, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has appealed to citizens to maintain peace and not fall prey to attempts to disturb the peace. Speaking after the key meeting of the Ministerial sub-committee on Maratha reservation on Monday in Mumbai, Chief Minister Shinde strongly condemned the incidents of violence over the issue in the State. He warned that those who are involved in violence should also keep in mind that it also harms the Maratha society and their families will also suffer due to it. The Chief Minister also requested Manoj Jarange Patil who is on indefinite hunger strike over the issue, to call off his indefinite strike. He stated that the government is working on the demands.<br />'' <br />''The Chief Minister reiterated that the State government is committed to providing permanent reservations to the Maratha community soon once it completes the process of legal scrutiny.  He informed that the State government has formed an advisory board, led by retired judges, to address the issue of the Maratha reservation. He added that the board will provide suggestions on the matter to the government and collect empirical data on the backwardness of the Maratha community. The Chief Minister also mentioned that reservations will be given to the Maratha community in two phases, based on caste certificates and economic backwardness.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">Meanwhile, Manoj Jarange appealed to people of the Maratha community to not get violent or commit suicidal attempts.</span>
