Maoists two-day bandh call begins on violent note

A two-day bandh called by the Maoists in six states began today on a violent note with Naxals killing two policemen in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district and five CPI(M) supporters in West Bengal's West Midnapore district.The ultras also blew up a stretch of railway track near Karmavad railway station in Giridih district in Jharkhand. Divisional Railway Manager,Dhanbad A Upadhaya, said, the blast, which occurred around 2 am, destroyed a metre-long track besides wheels of a goods train.In West Bengal,a group of Maoists attacked Dompara area in Nachupatina village in Midnapore district, close to the Orissa border and dragged out five Marxist supporters, including four of a family, from their houses. According to police, the ultras assaulted them before shooting them dead last night.In Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh, the Maoists attacked Bhejji police station and shot dead two policemen, who were preparing to go out on a patrol, after an exchange of fire this morning.Police sources said, Maoists shot dead a man at Panchadumar village in Jharkhand's Garhwa district.The bandh has been called in West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Jharkhand, Chhattishgarh, Andhra Pradesh, besides Gadchiroli, Bhandara and Chadrapur districts of Maharashtra and Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh by Maoist leader Kishenji.The shutdown has been called to press for a probe into the death of top Naxal leader Azad on July 2 in Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh.In Jharkhand, Rail traffic has resumed after the repair of the track which was blown up early this morning in Giridih district. Over 30 trains were affected for few hours.
