Maoists offer for talks with the Centre with a pre-condition of ceasefire on both sides

Maoists today offered talks with Central Government, provide there is ceasefire on both the sides. Top Maoist leader Kishenji said, the process of talks with the can only begin after the ceasefire. The offer came in the wake of the Naxals facing the heat of an imminent concerted operation by security forces. Asked to comment on the Centre's condition that the Maoists should abjure violence for any dialogue to begin, he alleged that the Centre is killing innocent people in the name of tackling the Maoists. The Maoist leader told PTI over phone that the Centre will have to withdraw para-military forces from the seven states — Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal — and treat the problems of tribals in a sympathetic way. He said, both the Centre and the state governments will have to apologies to the tribals for the prolonged atrocity meted out to them and the consequent suffering from the time of Independence. Asked about the West Bengal chief minister's visit to West Midnapore district where he is likely to announce a Rs. 1600 crore package for the development of tribal areas in three districts, Kishenji said, the people of the areas are fed up of these kind of promises adding what the state government has done in the last 33 years is known to all.
